Power of the Powerless: A Community Discussion and Connection Session

This 90-minute facilitated discussion will center on Vaclav Havel's famous essay, "The Power of the Powerless." You’ll be guided with directing questions and prompts as well as small-group engagement opportunities in order to foster inquiry and connection.

Vaclav Havel — the famed democratic activist and first president of the Czech Republic — wrote this critical essay in 1978 as a meditation on freedom and an examination of how dissidents can resist even the most repressive totalitarian systems. This session is for you if you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, isolated, and unsure amidst the political developments of the last few months. This conversation is critical right now to remind us that we as individuals have inherent power to resist in our thoughts and actions. It’s also important to have these conversations in community to realize that there are others just like you who are committed to freedom and ready to support.

The event takes place on Zoom. A link to join the meeting will be provided upon registration. The reading is available for free online, and a link to access it will also be provided to registrants.

This offering is free, with an opportunity to provide a supportive donation, $5-25+. 10% of all proceeds will be forwarded to Edgewater Mutual Aid.
